Extracellular Matrix-based scaffolding technologies for periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue regeneration

Tavelli L, McGuire M.K, Zucchelli G, Rasperini G, Feinberg S.E, Wang HL, Giannobile W.V. 2019. J of Periodontol. [Epub ahead of print].

The review focuses on properties, handling characteristics, indications and limitations of soft tissue substitutes for soft tissue augmentation at periodontal and peri-implant sites.
mucoderm® is one of the scaffolds described and its application presented by Prof. Zucchelli with 1 year follow-ups for recession defects and peri-implant soft tissue thickening.
Conclusion: Acellular collagen matrices can be used to build up the soft tissue volume. The reduced surgical time and morbidity as well as the aesthetic color match are one of the main advantages.
